Anything can happen…

At times, I experience writers block. I have so much to share but can’t find the words. Then I read something and realize, I don’t need to find the words. Sometimes I just need to pass on the brilliance of that someone who did.

I remember God is on my side and The Universe has got my back. When I let go but continue to walk in the directions of my desires, magic happens. See for yourself…

Who Believes in You?
By Jennifer McClanahan

As my mom read a story to my daughter, she paused to watch the last two minutes of a playoff game. “Anything can happen in the last two minutes,” Mom wisely said.

I was in the kitchen making chili. I came out and stood next to her, breathlessly watching the final seconds of the San Francisco 49ers playing the New Orleans Saints. The Saints were favored to win that day. They had won the Superbowl two years ago, and the 49ers haven’t won much in the last decade.

As the game clock ticked off the final 14 seconds of the game, Vernon Davis of the 49ers caught the ball in the end zone. It was the touchdown that won the game. All three of us started cheering and jumping up wildly in the living room. You could hear the cheers and screams rolling up the hill from the bars on 24th Street, over five blocks away. Then there was silence as Vernon Davis cried and ran into the sure and confident arms of his coach, Jim Harbaugh. They were holding their dreams as they embraced. It was awesome.

Vernon Davis, who has played for the 49ers for over six years, was interviewed after the game. In the interview, Mr. Davis said he knew for his team to come out victorious, he had to show up and make plays.

When asked about the catch that won the game, he said that that the team had practiced the winning play all week. He knew exactly what to do and where to be to catch that ball. He showed up in the right place at the right time.

Another commentator described the skill of the 49er’s coach Jim Harbaugh. He is magic is that he is able to instill confidence in his team. He believes in his players so much that they believe in what they can accomplish. His players knew that if they showed up and made the plays, they could win.

As moms, wives, partners and employees, we coach our families. We show up every day ready to make the plays for other people. Often, we forget to show up for ourselves. We forget to believe in what we do, both personally and professionally, to lead our teams to small, everyday victories.

We need to be reminded of our greatness.

Below, I’ve listed five things I learned about showing up from watching Vernon Davis play football last Saturday. If you want to show up and be ready when you have the chance to score, take note.

  1. Be ready for great things to happen.

Set a game plan and expect great things to happen. Whether it is planning dinner meals, creating a “Fempire” or winning a game, the key to success is preparing and showing up to run the plays. Think about what you want to accomplish, make a plan to accomplish it and then expect success.

  1. Keep your head in the game.

Be aware of where you are in the moment. Don’t lose yourself in the busyness of life. Focus on what you are doing and where you are at. And if you are somewhere you don’t want to be, think about how to make a change.

  1. Practice being who you want to be and how you want to live.

Practice who you want to be, how you want to live. Live as if your dreams are unfolding, right now, in the moment. Be ready to see it come together in the end zone. Deciding who you want to be, then allowing yourself to become that person takes effort and clarity. Over time, you refine your vision of yourself to get where you ultimately want to be.

  1. Become accountable to your dreams and desires.

Share your dreams with people you trust. Talk about your desires as if they are possible. This makes you become responsible for doing what it takes to make them happen. If you keep them locked away and to yourself, you are never accountable for why you aren’t living them.

  1. Lean on the strength of someone who believes in you.

Many times our families are more comfortable with who we are than who we would like to become. When you want to live your life differently, you need to find support from someone outside of those who depend on you. For me, seeking out encouraging believers and a coach was key. The support I received was integral to my own personal transformation.

Maybe the football metaphor doesn’t work for you. That’s ok. I think you can see still see the point I’m making: to live your best life and to be accountable to yourself for your dreams, you must be aware, plan ahead, take action and find support. You and your family are worth it.

January’s 12in12…
25 crunches each day

WHY: We are headed to Maui in February for the 16th year. Every year I say I want to be in shape. I do next to nothing.

4 DAY RESULT: Four days into January and let me tell you what 25 crunches has done for me. Granted 4 days =  still new. I am excited to see what’s happening mid-month and end of month. Notice my language  – I’m not leery or fearing I can’t do it or will stop, I’m excited!

DAY BY DAY RUNDOWN: I won’t typically give you a day by day run down (or maybe I will!) but I want to share what’s happening these first four days because I’m surprised…

  • 1/1 25 crunches
  • 1/2 50 crunches and 25 push-ups – 25 just didn’t feel enough and my arms wanted attention!
  • 1/3 50 crunches, 25 push-ups. My legs feel left out. Add 25 squats and 25 lunges.
  • 1/4 Hurt so good. Wake up filled with energy. I’m the first one in the shower – this is NOT typical. In fact, my husband and kids ask me where I’m going. LOL. 50 crunches, 25 push-ups, 15 tricep pushes (the backs of my arms were feeling neglected), 15 squats and 15 lunges. My kids and husband want to start doing it too, so I’ll join them for another round tonight. AND I’m inspired and want to start my couch to 5K app (love me a good app!).

Whether I stick to the extra crunches, pushups, squats, lunges and couch to 5k doesn’t matter. What matters is I do 25 crunches a day. The extras are just icing on the cake and the result is my energy is… Off. The. Hook.

I haven’t been this excited about moving my body in a long time. I actually WANT to move it. My mental focus is better. I feel emotionally connected and in the now. I’m pleasantly surprised at what doing 25 crunches a day has woken up inside of me.

Each month pick a practice you want to incorporate into your life by adding or letting go of something. 12 goals, intentions, quests – call it what you want! The kicker is – you only have to do it consistently, every day, for a month. There is something so refreshing and releasing about this. Who can’t do something every day for one month.

When I think about making changes in my life, the ones I want for a lifetime and I feel paralyzed. I think ahead, big mistake. Future focus takes me out of the NOW.

The thought… ‘I only have to do this today and for one month’ – FREEING.

Refocus to the now. What would you love to incorporate in your life this month? What sounds really yummy – it may be challenging but exciting to say, “I DID IT FOR one entire month! Yay me! I ROCK!”

Per fitarella, here’s the scoop and how it works…
Pick one thing to do consistently every day for a month (ideas below.) It can be something new you want to try, something you want to get better at or something you want to see if you can live without. Commit to doing this thing every day for that month no matter what, even when you don’t want to, even when it hurts, even when it sucks. The practice is the reward. Once the month is up, you’ll start your next thing. You may or may not want to continue the previous month’s practice longer if it’s working for you, however, you still need to introduce something new for the new month.

Map out their entire year or be a month-to-month kinda girl (that’s me). What I find fun, you get to the end of 2012 and look at all the cool things you did, tried or let go of – whether you did them the entire month or not. We are so hard on ourselves and tend to look at what we didn’t accomplished versus giving ourselves a big pat on the back, air smooch and kudos at what we did do!

I’ll be sharing my 12in12 each month with you. Here are some of the ideas I’ve come up with:

  • 25 crunches a day*
  • 25 squats / 25 lunges a day*
  • read for 30 minutes a day
  • eat-in all month*
  • no soda*
  • take a picture each day*
  • no gluten*
  • meditate for 15 minutes
  • 2 servings of greens a day*
  • dance 15 minutes*
  • learn a new italian word*
  • send a letter in the mail*
  • go for a 15 minute walk*
  • dairy free
  • sugar free
  • no tv
  • stretch 15 minutes a day
  • box 20 minutes a day
  • hand write in journal
  • unplug at 5pm*
  • check email twice a day max*
  • create a video each day
  • get 8 hours of sleep
  • get intimate EVERY DAY*
  • 8 glasses of water a day
  • no tv in the bedroom*

I’m really eye’ing the *’d items.

Won’t you join me for 12in12? Say YES!

Deep Desire

I picked my word for the year, MORE. Then I settle into a comfortable chair, grab my blanket and tea and ponder these questions:

what do I want to experience, express, create and contribute to the world in 2012?

As I sat in silence, my inner wisdom (brilliant beauty that she is) speaks  loud and clear.

In 2012…

  • I deeply desire to experience MORE magic and goosebumps. Laughter and play. Experience MORE nature.
  • I deeply desire to express MORE of my voice through writing.
  • I deeply desire to create a deeper connection to myself, my husband, my kids, my tribe and mother nature.
  • I deeply desire to contribute to the world… more focus by disconnecting electronically, volunteering locally, being fun and showing up 100% as me. Sharing my stories, shining my light and inspiring others to do the same!
What do you deeply desire for 2012?

2012. Word. More.

I am intention girl and it’s that time of year… love choosing a Word for my year. Not to be confused with Wikipedia’s Word of the Year (pretty funny!).  I’ve done it long enough now that about this time each year a word pops into my consciousness. The word chooses me. It says “pick me, pick me!” I get curious and say, “Ok, let’s do it!”

This years word…

More.

I know, weird right? That’s what I thought.

MORE felt… a little strange.

However, in tune with my inner wisdom, I don’t argue or fight it (today – haha), wasted energy. Truth be told, I’m recovering from one nasty ass winter cold I don’t have the strength to fight it! Sweet surrender. An opportunity to help me slow down, do less and feel more.

I accept my Inner Wisdoms offering. Get curious and discover why MORE chose me.

More.

  • More of what I (inner wisdom) desire, less ego.
  • More love, magic, fun.
  • More play. More laughter. More games. More silly.
  • More Mother Nature.
  • More meaning.
  • More fresh foods, less processed.
  • More exercise, less excuses.
  • More silence, less talking.
  • More meaningful conversations, less surface talk.
  • More dancing, less sitting.
  • More intimacy, less sex.
  • More allow, less try.
  • I desire to write or be published in MORE magazine. This one was just fun!
  • I want to pass on MORE meaning, volunteering, and making a difference to my kids… by being the change I wish to see in the world.
  • More of what’s important to me and what I desire. Less of what others think is important for me and what I should do.

I couldn’t be MORE excited.
Wordle: 2012

What’s YOUR Word for the Year??

Take a peek at years prior… 2009, and 2010! I didn’t write about 2011 but it was MOVE as in Bust a Move! Move my business and my butt.
For those of you new to Word of the Year, get Christine Kane’s version which I started using 3 years ago. It’s a great place to start.

Reflections, Intentions and Right Now – 2012

2011 Reflections, 2012 Intentions and Right Now

I love this time of year!! Looking back at 2011, creating intentions for 2012 and being present, right now!

2011 Reflections

I browse my iCal, Love Life * Be You newsletters and ask my family what they loved most. So what did I come up with? Here are eight great things that happened in 2011:
(sticking with my grateful 8 theme!)

  1. Began the first Inner Circle group. I’ve died and gone to heaven. Thank goodness it’s heaven on earth. The women in this group have made the first Inner Circle everything I imagined and more! Truly beautiful.
  2. Travels to Arizona with coaching girlfriends, Maui with family and friends, Vegas in April with my man and friends, the Hampton’s in June to celebrate SCHOOLS OUT and hang with family, Coeur d’Alene twice in July to – once to celebrate my cousins 40th, the other to speak at my friends Food for Your Soul weekend, Huntington Beach for my Master Training Intensive, Montana for Labor Day, Victoria BC with girlfriends, Arizona (again) to get my Lucky on and ended the year with another trip to NY – Manhattan – to celebrate my nieces Bat Mitzvah and celebrate Christmas with our East Coast family. I love travel!!!
  3. Launched my new website www.jentrulson.com and created a new FREE offer – The Girls Guide to Living Each Day on Purpose!
  4.  Became a Master Coach for Martha Beck!! The journey was amazing and I made some new friends along the way. Deeply grateful. In the process I did the tele-series “How to Live Your Worst Life” with a couple crazy sister coaches, wrote one of my most popular blogs I’m not happy, and worked with horses.
  5.  My oldest started driving (permit), my son started high school, my youngest started middle school. Where does the time go?!
  6.  Co-led Wellness Leap at Lululemon in Bellevue WA. Women set goals, built new friendships and won prizes! Also launched Free to Be then realized this was not meant to be born right now. Co-led Falling for GREAT in honor of Thanksgiving for the 2nd year in a row!
  7.  Created a Gratitude Journal… with a twist. I love them and yeehaw… clients and coaches do too, which is much more important!!
  8. Participated in Celebrate Balance on Capitol Hill, Mom Gets a Life Tele-party and The Choose Love Project!

Love reflecting! Now what?

2012 Intentions

Oh the choices!! I’ve given you a few links below to ideas I’ve enjoyed or am trying this year for the first time (12in12).

This year I got crazy!! I started out choosing a Word for my Year. My word… MORE. Read MORE about it here!

Then I reread Chris Brogan’s Three Words and I chose… Write. Fun. Magic. All these go hand in hand with MORE. MORE writing. MORE fun. MORE magic.

Next I tapped into my Deep Desires – delicious! Taste it here.

Lastly, there is 12in12. My family got excited about this one too. I’m starting January off with 25 a day. 25 crunches every single day. Hurts so good!! There is good reason behind it too, headed to Maui in February :) Follow the 12in12 fun here!

Right Now

Right now… it’s 7:00 pm on 1/2/12. The kids go back to school tomorrow. The house will be silent. My son is asleep. My daughters are playing on their iPhone and iPod on the couch. I’m sitting next to my husband who is watching college football. Stanford vs Oklahoma. We are all in our comfies, I’m wearing my noise canceling head phones while I write. Today I pulled Soul Coaching cards for my year. I wasn’t sure I liked what I picked, so I shuffled, cut the cards, and re-picked the cards. Guess what, same cards. I’m not making this shit up either. I was like – WHAT??!! (Magic). Wisdom, Power, Action. Then I drew my Life Purpose card for the year – School. I thought, no way, I am not doing any more schooling! So guess what I did. Shuffled, cut the cards and drew again. I kid you not, you KNOW what I’m about to say. The card is, once again, School. Argh. I laugh. Ok, let’s see what’s in store for me. (MORE magic)

Wishing you a year of loving life and being you, on purpose and MORE!

Sweet Reflections.

What is ONE great thing that happened in YOUR 2011?

Words to live by…

Posted in: Blog, Create A Life You Love, Inspiration, Love on December 31, 2011 » No Comments

It’s December 30th, two days before the new year and my house is full. Men and me, playing a poker tournament. I was second out. Not like me. However, I have this deep yearning to write and read Martha’s new book Finding Your Way in a Wild New World, which arrived in my hands TODAY via the most awesome UPS guy ever. So maybe the early out wasn’t really a loss at all ;)

I open my email, a girlfriend has repinned something from one of my many pinterest boards. Which leads me to browsing pinterest (a deliciously creative space, please tell me you’ve experience it!) I stumble across this…

Source: luxesharee.tumblr.com via zoi on Pinterest

And I think yes!! This is how I want to be.

It reminded me what is important to me, my cause.

My deep desire is for others to live a life they absolutely love. The ups, downs and in betweens. To embrace it and be fully themselves and love the hell out of it. I see too many tight unhappy faces and I just want to grab those people, hug them and say – life is meant to be loved, embrace original you, you can create a life you love!!

Live life to express!

In November I decided I will write each week in 2012 on Love and Magic. The love and magic we create and the magic that happens when we come from a place of love. Love for ourselves, others and the world. I didn’t know HOW BIG this was until I started reading Martha’s new book (only through the introduction and I’m so freakin’ moved!!) and my jaw continues to drop as I think… wow, she is putting words to what I feel on a much grander scale. I realize I’m not thinking big enough. And so I start. Thinking bigger.

Don’t strive to make your presence noticed.

Funny, I’m a Leo, born August 8th. Leo’s tend to love the spotlight. I’m not your typical Leo. I love people and connecting but I don’t want the stage. So striving to make my presence noticed isn’t big for me, with the exception I want to leave a legacy. I want ‘who I am’ to impact people in a meaningful and positive way.  The way I can do that… be me, write, share my passion, inspire, connect. Oh I just got goosebumps!

Another favorite ‘words to live by’…

~everything in love~

(And yes, you can bet you’ll see a post on this in 2012 with a picture of my girlfriends tattoo with these very words!!)

What words do you live by?

What Inner Circle Sisters are saying…
I think the stress of my son’s behavior and the resulting relationship with my husband got me thinking about joining the Inner Circle.   But it was Jen’s never ending calmness and resolute belief that I needed to be involved that tipped me over the edge.  Being surrounded by a group of like minded women who are going through similar situations brings resolve to anyone that they can get through what they need to get through.  The work that we have done and the ideas that we have learned about will be with me forever. I will be forever grateful for Jen having come into my life and for giving me nuggets of knowledge to use to make my life the best it can be. ~IC Sister Lisa

Traditionally speaking, I am not a woo woo girl. I do not read self help books. And I do not think wishing something will make it be. But I want to change my life. I want to be the change I want to see in the world. Jen is guiding me on this path. I have no doubt I would still be staring off into my future yearning for more without her powerful words of wisdom. The peacefulness she exudes washes over the most skeptical of people leaving them wanting just a few more minutes. My time with you, Jen, has been the best learning experience of my life! ~IC Sister Vicki

Crazy normal.

… or something better

Catch this… my favorite workout tank top was missing for a good 3 weeks. My daughters new and favorite yoga pants also MIA: 2 weeks. I asked. “Ok Divine, can you help me find my tank top and daughters pants.” An hour later I get a hit/message. We get hits all the time but we tend to ignore or talk ourselves out of them. My hit said, look behind the washer. I look, I find. My tank top. “Wow, thanks!” Then back to work I go. A couple hours later I get another hit “look in Sevren’s drawer”. Again, I listen. (side note: listening is an important element here!!) I go check Sevren’s dresser drawers. The pants are right there on top! Amazing. Crazy normal.

I’ve always prided myself in my independence. I can do it on my own, I don’t need anyone. What I learned… that can be quite lonely and unfulfilling.

So what’s a lonely unfulfilled girl to do? Partner. I love sharing my life with the people around me. I also dig dig dig the spiritual world… God, The Divine, Universe. I decided to take this ‘sharing and partnering’ to heart. Every day I would ask The Divine for what I desired and yearned for. Some days I simply asked for help.

How many times do you want something, only to dismiss it… and never ask?

The Divine wants you to be happy and loves to be part of your daily gig.

I have a deep knowing that whatever I need I will receive. It may or may not show up how I picture or ask. That my friend is what makes life exciting! I love living from that place of knowing… everything happens for me vs everything happens to me.

Once you start asking and listening… watch the magic that shows up! Even past requests start to appear. The same day my favorite tank top shows up I get a call from a wellness center I frequent. One week prior I had a realization that I’d love to have office space with like-minded people. As it stands now, I choose to work with 3 one-on-one clients at a time. Having office space really doesn’t make ‘business sense’. Yet, I get filled up by being around amazing people. Sharing space a few days a week would be…  AWESOME! Long story short. I have an idea and desire. I ask The Divine. My monkey mind starts in – really, like that would happen. I acknowledge my monkey mind, thank it for visiting, then reiterate my desire to The Divine. That evening the owner calls and offers everything I had asked for, plus some. Giddy. Thank you Divine. Crazy normal.
