Each year—an ending, a beginning.
I love December and January for it’s energy and invitations—a time to reflect, celebrate, and honor the end of one year and invite, welcome and attend the coming of a new 365 days. We have the choice at any time throughout the year to do this, however, there’s something very cyclical that draws us to do it now.
The end of the darkest quarter of the year before we move towards Winter Solstice, when the days begin to see more light. The energy leading up to Winter Solstice is that of hibernation, reflection, and honoring. A time to go within, wander around through the experiences of last year. Then celebrate and release them.
My personal ceremony / ritual for celebrating usually consists of dance, voice expression, writing, and fire. Dancing is my favorite – anything beat that’s tribal, goddess, expressive, and/or sacred. The motion connects me with the emotion—allowing my body, soul, and spirit to energetically feel and release. You can also find me chanting or singing out loud. (side note: of late, the song I find myself drawn to sing with every morning is Circle of Women by Nalini. Enjoy!)
My sacred practice of honoring, celebrating, and releasing the year and dreaming, desiring, and intending for the new year ebbs and flows, this year it looks much like last…
I treat myself to three downloads each year. One is free, the other two cost a minimal amount:
- Susannah Conway’s Unravelling the Year Ahead. Oh how I love this 30-page PDF filled with questions and space to reflect on 2014 and wonder about 2015.
- I can’t help but smile when I think of walking hand in hand with a goddess throughout the year. This is the fourth year I’ve treated myself to Amy Palko’s My Word Goddess Reading. Each year I love how my Goddess guides me. I can go months without looking at my goddess and when I revisit her message and nature I just laugh… I can see how she’s been with me.
- This is one of my offerings, The Medicine Wheel Reading, and this year I’ve added so many goodies!! In addition to monthly guidance and personal messages, you get monthly emails each new moon (yes, we are going to follow the moon phases!) reminding you to check-in with your guidance, celebrate, honor, and release what has passed, welcome, invite, and intend on what’s to come. BONUS! You also receive monthly distant healing.
*This year I’m treating myself to Mara Glatzel’s Glitter & Devotion—a virtual home retreat on December 21st, Winter Solstice.
I print each offering out and put them in their home for the year, a 3 ring binder adorned with a cover of my choice. It sits next to my altar. Spending time with each offering in stillness, throughout December, my word for the year is revealed.
Sometimes I know my word in November, hands down, no questions asked. Sometimes I think I know it and it changes. One year it changed six months in. There are no rules, only your own. I like a word, it brings me home to how I want to be and experience this wild ride called life.
Bottom line, what feels like fun? It may be simple, intricate, deep, light – whatever it is… you get to choose your ritual.
